Here's a bit of sharing about the two newest artcards I've created for Kelly Light's marvelously inspiring RippleSketches blog. A great opportunity to do something positive for this crazy and overwhelming situation taking place in the Gulf.
"She Saves Seashells By The Seashore"
It's interesting how the tiniest bit of a line or mark can change the dynamics of an expression or emotion. In this rough sketch, I felt the mouth lines ended up depicting too much concern and worry. Maybe even a touch of fear?
Transferred the sketch to the artcard for final painting in gouache. Altered the final mouth lines to suggest more of an upbeat, hopeful 'you're safe with me, little seashells' feeling.
"This Is Our Home"
Scanned in dry image and painted digitally in Photoshop,
mainly using Dry Media Brushes, and Pastels. Such a delight to create these for ripplesketches!
Love them both Priscilla! It's so true that that smallest changes can add depth and new meaning to an expression. I totally feel the change in the character from worry to that protective feeling. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather! I appreciate your thoughts on this very much!
ReplyDeleteOn top of saying a heart felt Thanks for all of your help from day one of Ripple - I have to say how wonderful each ripple sketch has been - first the black and whites and now these fantastic colorful ones. I have some favorites out of all of the Ripple art- I'd add the little girl and her bucket of shells to the list!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelly. Reflecting, as with a mirror, my heartfelt appreciation back to you for creating the community for us to create our ripples to help in this way!
ReplyDeleteI'm incredibly amazed at not only the talent, but the heart that is evident throughout the ripple sketches on your blog!
I can't stop looking at the little girl piece. She is adorable and you caught the expression you described. Also, the design of the background is delightful. It gives the piece extra interest. Such nice work!
