A sketch from a book in progress:

A book I'm working on features a baby who cries loudly and a big brother driven to distraction. This isn't a scene from the book, but it's a sort of character study, to figure out why the baby cries and what she looks like in full meltdown mode.
There's a happy ending in my book. Smiling babies are a little less fun to draw.

"Rico's Collection" book idea

This is a book dummy page from a story still in development. I don't typically do sketches this tight, but thought it might better help communicate the feel of characters.

Snow Fun

We have been snowed in for two days! It's pretty, but I like to see the snow from inside my cozy warm house.

I'll let these guys live out my childhood memories of days of creating snowmen, sledding down hills and building giant snow forts.

After an hour or so we'd come inside, frozen, red checks and stinging legs from the cold.  A cup of hot cocoa and sitting under blankets on top of the vent while the heat surrounded us would do the trick!

Yep, I'll just stick inside now and enjoy that cocoa! I'll throw in a few marshmallows in honor of my inner child.

JOY- Hibernate

I'm so glad to get back to our Sketchables blog!

Sketching is such an important stage to working things out. Not to mention, probably the most fun part of creating an image. For myself, I know I need to get back to sketching for myself in my sketchbook. Too often I get so busy with work and home life, I let the sketchbook slide. Besides hoping to share and inspire with this blog of wonderful illustrators, it will get me back to sketching for myself!

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for stopping by! And, by all means, leave a comment if you like :o)

Hibernate

I'm loving seeing how my friends sketch an interpretation of the word, "hibernate."
Here's mine:

It's a quick pencil sketch with digital color. Keep warm, everyone!
(I live in Michigan where winter's second blast of Arctic air is keeping us cuddling.)

"Hibernation"

At first I drew a very cute, cozy bear cuddling with his blanket...then I thought, "That's not how I would hibernate!" So I started over and made this a bit more autobiographical. -Steve Bjorkman

Hibernating

We are having a hibernating kind of winter here in Michigan.  My favorite kind of hibernating - wearing comfy jammies, curling up under lots of blankets on the couch with my family and sharing a giant bowl of popcorn.

Hibernate This Week!

Kelly's favorite librarian did it again!  She always made sure the library was the best place ever to be most especially on cold and wintery days.

HIBERNATE is one of our themes on this, our first week back ~ Thank you for stopping by for a visit!

Wishing for you ~ a comfy, cozy week ahead,
~ Priscilla
