Bathtub Party Day Is Soon!

Maria loved bubble baths, but on Bathtub Party Day, her farm friends always made her giggle the most.

Thanksgiving Week is here!

This little guy had saved the extra-large paper bag from the market where his mom likes to shop, and just knew it would make the biggest and best Thanksgiving turkey gift for his Grandma.

Orangutan Awareness Week!

Did you know that it's Orangutan Awareness Week?

Deforestation is the primary threat to the orangutan. Something as simple as checking the labels on products you buy can help. Be sure if the item contains palm oil, it is grown responsibly and not from farmers who clear rainforests to plant their crops. Here is a link for bit more information

Veteran's Day!~

Picturebook Month!

I didn't want to miss posting for Picturebook Month, so here is a quick one from me. I would have liked to add more to the image, but figured this is better than nothing.

Our house is wall to wall book shelves. My share is mostly art and picturebooks, and I'm still collecting and always will! Now I have someone to share with and to buy for ;o). Ya right, they're all for me, HA!

Priscilla ~ Sweetest Day

Kenton knew all of Serinda's favorite candies and that she always, always shared with others.  That's what makes her his most favorite friend.  Well, his only really true friend, actually.

Sweetest Day 2012 is coming this week!  It is a day for doing something sweet for family members, friends, and acquaintances.

It was started in Cleveland in 1922 by philanthropist and candy company employee Herbert Birch Kingston who distributed candy to orphans and shut-ins.

These two may look a little familiar to you. Hopefully, they do. I'm trying to age them down, and getting the proportions just right is a real challenge!

I hope to add some color to this by week's end. As we all know, color is very important to making it feel like Fall.

Casey doesn't know it yet, but his twin sister made a special mud & rocks cupcake just for him.

"Soak" being our word for this week, it seemed fun to remember to soak away our cares in whatever way makes us happy!

Priscilla ~ Summertime Delights

Summer delight and fun takes all shapes and forms, right?  Ice cream cone shapes, the form of a double popsicle to share with a good friend, going barefoot all the day long and into the night, and sometimes it's finding a fun activity that can only happen with the help of a best friend.

On Friendship Day (Aug 5th), I'm just sure Nessy and Twina will be celebrating by playing their favorite ~ Hide and Seek!    And they know that a real true best friend doesn't find you right away even if they could.

Summer Surprises

 

The last few days we've been celebrating summer by taking walks on nearby nature trails, exploring all the beauty that surrounds us here in Michigan.  I've been art journaling each day, both with tiny finds I've discovered along the way and more whimsical interpretations like the one above.  Which is a mix up of all my favorite things we saw on a recent trek.

Since July is both National Picnic Month and National Ice Cream Month, Francine is determined to enjoy it to the fullest this week.  Serving her friends minty ice cream and home-baked chocolate chip cookies in a little picnic out on the sidewalk is one of her most favorite things to do.

Of these two July holidays ~ Moon Day (20th) and Hammock Day (22nd) ~ I couldn't decide on just one, so chose to include both!   - - - quite frankly, night images I find very challenging - so I trudged onward enjoying the process as I experimented with this and that.

Jimmy's mom always made sure to keep brown paper bags around the house especially for his puppet shows.  When July 12th was coming close, Jimmy really liked celebrating with his neighbors and using his paper bag voice.

March Hare and his Tea Party - Kelly

I can not tell a lie. This theme was my idea. I wanted to draw it so bad!!! I got a little carried away with it and do not want to stop..but I had to post it! It's my favorite book of all time..and I love all of the movie versions, animated and black and white. (not a fan of the Burton one tho) My favorite movie version is THIS.
How do you not only reinterpret a classic but also- one that has been done over and over again?  and so beautifully.... Have you ever seen THIS @ The Carle? I cried- it was so pretty.
How to do my own?  You close your eyes and pretend you are there... I thought what if I were Alice- well, she'd have dark hair. After all, that's what I wanted- to fall asleep in the sunshine and be woken up by the white rabbit and fall down that hole! In this world of my own - there would be a touch of the things I love. So I thought of old funny page strips - and my tea pot collection and sailor tops. Every few years I re-read the books and it never gets old. The nonsense. The word play. The rhyme.

I must finish this don't you think? It needs me to... otherwise, Off with my HEAD!

Guest Blogger-Greg Matusic

While the pessimist shakes their fist at losing an hour of sleep, we optimists embrace the extra hour of daylight. And the warmer temperatures don't hurt. Lucky duck that I am, I get to hang out on the back deck after a day at the office with my kiddo playing cards, listening to the ballgame, sipping lemonade and grilling some apple-maple chicken sausages. Spring forward, people! It's a swell thing. And so are the apple-maple chicken sausages.
