The lion's share

My lion is demonstrating the lion's share of sadness here, but he's not allowed to say why yet -- the final art isn't done yet. This is a detail from a sketch for the picture book I'm working on, but it probably won't make it into the final book; my next sketch will be this lion looking out a different window. We'll see how it goes.

Dress Your Pet Day

Well, at least for one day on the farm!

The farmer's daughter is still deciding what the cat will be wearing. . .

Happy National Dress Your Pet Day on January 14th,

It's National Bubble Bath Day!

One of the books I'm working on has a bubble bath scene. Here are some of the sketches I did before deciding on the last one.

Now, back to work for me. I have 30 other pages to tend to...

National Bird Day Sketches

And they all looked on with bird glee, as they partied with their moo friend.

Happy National Bird Day today!

Creature

This morning I woke up from a dream where I was crawling through a murky marshy obstacle course that was overrun by sneaky alligators. When I reached safety, I had to scan a barcode that was hanging from my neck on a lanyard. I was then ushered to safety through a wooden gate by the fellow above. He was very large, a deep rusty color, and seemed to be made of metal. When I whispered thank you to him, he replied with a single word: "Welcome."

Sketch + paint

I'm working on a new book idea, born out of a simple character sketch which I painted

and then inked,

and then decided deserved a whole book. We'll see where it goes...
