Tis The Season
She sings happily and cheerfully, with her head out the window on the way to the family Christmas party. She doesn't even mind being in the same seat with the gifts. It makes perfect sense to her since her gift is her voice for all to hear.
Merry Christmas!

Turkey Powers
One Super Turkey power is obviously the ability to surf. A second one might be to leap tall buildings, but I'm not sure since I've not yet read the comic.
Cheers!

Inktober and 5 minute Snoopy
I ADORE PEANUTS, especially the style the amazingly inhuman superman, Charles Schulz drew originally in the 1950s. They were so CUTE! Here is my lame, 5 minute attempt at drawing my favorite dog, Snoopy.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Favorite Color Week
She also would love to know what YOUR favorite color might be ?!?
Why NOT have a 'Favorite Color Week", right?

Characters, characters, characters...
As with probably most illustrators, my favorite part of working up a story is designing the characters! Searching and searching, drawing after drawing. Here is a ittsy bittsy section from my sketchbook of some character exploring I'm doing for a story idea.
Have a great weekend!

Super Kid
My daughter's teacher sent home a little cloud for the parents to write down their hopes and dreams for their kids in the upcoming school year. I had to draw on it, of course, and wrote down that I wanted my daughter to have a year as awesome as she is. Here's wishing all the kids a great school year!

Festus
Today I met my charming and talented friend, Joanna Hunt, for coffee (except neither of us actually drink coffee) and was telling her about a cat I used to know. When I was a student at the University of Minnesota, I worked on the barn crew at the Large Animal Hospital. My duties included cleaning stalls, milking cows, and visiting with the barn cats. Festus was a portly grey and white cat who loved to lounge at the end of the small ruminant aisle. It wasn't until I sat down beside him one day that I realized that the concrete he loved to stretch out on was right above some hot water pipes. He had found the coziest spot in the whole hospital. He was such a sweet little fella, I miss him.

Cats and Pugs and Legs, Oh My!
Last night we were all watching tv together and I was sketching the pets. The pugs were relatively still but the cat moved a bunch, it was really fun to try to capture him on paper. Cats are fascinating to me because they can be liquid and angular at the same time. Their ears are extremely expressive and hard to see sometimes (especially when the cat is mostly black and tucks in his chin toward his chest). Threw my kid's leg in there for good measure. The sketchbook I'm using is Drawing is Magic by John Hendrix. John is insanely talented and his sketchbook has been really fun so far! It was recommended to me by our own Andi Butler, and I heartily second that recommendation! Happy drawing!

Wet Paint
We are planning to paint our house this summer, so I planned to draw a can of paint and paintbrush but somehow ended up with a kitten instead.

Dancing Doodle
Sometimes we dance through life mentally, rather than physically ~ especially when we are filled with appreciation for treasured people in our lives.

3rd of July
Tonight we went to see some fireworks and I just had to sketch an adorable little girl who was walking along with little light up reflective star antennae on her head. Such a little cutie!

Joy of Aquarium Month!
I could totally spend more time on this sketch. Who knows, maybe I'll work this one out to finish sometime.
I love aquariums. They're so relaxing to me, especially when they are really well done and the environments are as natural as they can be for the inhabitants. We're lucky enough to have a great aquarium relatively close in Monterey!
Have a fabulous weekend and be sure to enjoy an aquarium this month!
