The Pumpkin - Kathy Blackmore

The Pumpkin

"Oh! - fruit loved of boyhood! - the old days recalling,
When wood-grapes were purpling and brown nuts were falling!
When wild, ugly faces we carved in its skin,
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!"

~ John Greenleaf Wittier (1850)

May your Jack-o-lanterns effectively guard against nasty spirits! ~ Kathy : )

I am very grateful for carving out friendships with my fellow illustrators. Thanks Kathy for filling in!

  1. This is just lovely- did you tone the paper w/ watercolor first? - I'd like to see the kid who carved this pumpkin too! I think sepia looks good on you
