It's all about the Apple Cider (DONUTS)

I LOVE apple picking. I love the scenery - I love the act of picking each one off of the trees. I love the Fall air- the sweatshirt wearing - golden sunlight bouncing off of the red, yellow and orange colored world of the orchard. I really really LOVE hot apple cider in  a cup warming the chill off of my hands. BUT - all of this love pales in comparison to my love for the apple cider donut. At the end of the day- a warm, brown paper bag- slightly oil stained.. inside is the freshly baked- cinnamon and sugar coated donuts. Stick your head in the bag and inhale...  the smell of Autumn!!!MMMMMmmmmmmm

The perfect ending to a perfect Fall day. I will be there the end of September in Massachusetts - come on and join me- you know you want to!!

  1. Amen sister!! That's exactly how we feel about fall and apples too!

It's been a tradition to go apple picking since my husband and I first went back when we were dating, and we've gone every year since (now with our girls!!). And we love hot mulled cider, and apple cider donuts!!

In fact, we're moving to Colorado soon (I'm going to miss NH!), and one of the first things the girls made me look up was to see if we could go apple picking out there. (And we did find an orchard, and they even sell the cider donuts!!)

Wonderful sketch! I adore that little girl reaching for the donut!! And that squirrel is a great touch!!

  2. I would love to come and join you! Maybe someday! Fall is my very favorite of all the seasons! Apple cider donuts- yum! There is an orchard by us that makes apple oatmeal cookies that are fantastic. Oh, and your sketch is fab, the Mom pouring cider is so cute!

  3. When I was a kid we had a yearly field trip to an apple orchard where we had donuts and apple cider at the end of the day! I love this image, so fun and full of life. We have a while longer to wait for fall, but your illustration makes me feel like we just inched a little closer.

  5. Fall is my favorite season, too! And although we don't get to pick apples down here in Texas, I LOVE them in my baked goods! I will have to find an apple cider donut recipe. :)
I love your sketch, you can really feel the family's happiness.
p.s.-I almost had a squirrel eating an apple as my sketch this week!

  6. Delightful! Amazingly, there is apple picking in Cali--in Apple Hill, which is in the foothills of the Sierra. It *smells* like fall out there, which is quite an accomplishment in California. There's one orchard that sells cider donuts, and the line is LOOOOONG. But worth it.

  8. I so want an apple cider donut!! I so want to be in New England for fall, too! California is pretty fun, but nothing beats New Hampshire autumn...

And I'm thinking too bad the squirrel didn't grab a donut instead of an apple.

  9. Woody- squirrels are not smart.
Thanks everybody! -I can't wait to lose the hum of the A.C. - open the windows and watch the tree tops burst into color- from my attic studio window!

  10. You can have those donuts. So long as you leave me the crisp, sun-warmed apples fresh from the trees. Gorgeous sketch, as always Kelly.

  11. Gina- yes- it is the only time I forgo my germa-phobe tendencies- and eat right off the tree- I do the ol' fashioned shirt rub-and bite into the apple!

  12. Mmmm...donuts... Always look forward to seeing your sketches, Kelly!! Man, you're making me want to go grab a snack! If only I could eat donuts right now :o( Such a great image , great characters and a wonderful feeling you've created. Gotta love the squirrel of course. I dunno, it sure looks like he's reconsidering his choice of the apple over the donut to me!
