Diandra-Sketcher's Choice: Thumbnails

These are a few thumbnail sketches for a dummy book I completed last year. Believe it or not, these images were in version eight of the book. It's a counting book told in rhyme, that will probably never see the light of a publisher's mail room, but I consider it a necessary step in my journey to publication. If nothing else I learned some lessons in dummy making, and how vital it is to the writing process.  And I like the mouse so much I can't help but think he may show up in another project.

  1. I agree that creating a dummy book, whether it actually is submitted or not, is a valuable learning tool. I hope to see that little mouse in another adventure.

  2. Thanks for sharing the "bones" of your work! I am prepping a personal project that I hope to pitch as an eventual book idea and samples like yours are great boosts.

    Thanks!

  4. Great post, Diandra! Yes, I agree with you and Heather, creating a dummy book is a must to practice. Such a great learning experience. I bet you could go somewhere with this story!!! The characters are so sweet, I wouldn't give up.

  5. Oh, I absolutely LOVE that spread with the dogs. So lovely! I totally understand the dummy-revision angst, but it does seem to be a necessary step. Lovely sketches, all of them.
